My 2c about NVIDIA acquisition

As the title says, here are my 2c:

  1. First cent: congratulations for being acquired. The value you provide is enormous and the acquisition value proves it.
  2. Second cent: I surely hope this site won’t get enshittified in time, as I saw in many products like EA Games, ChatGPT and others. Definition of enshittification.

I agree with this. The acquisition is definitely a big milestone for Hugging Face, and I hope NVIDIA keeps the open-source spirit and community-first approach that made the platform so valuable in the first place. Hopefully it won’t become another case of enshittification.

Wow. It’s nVidia. I’m glad at least it wasn’t Google, Microsoft, or Elon Musk…
I like both Gemma and Florence 2, though.

NVIDIA to Acquire Hugging Face | NVIDIA Blog

Think we better start doing our 2nd “huggingface” site before they start removing open llms

I’m curious whether the acquisition would allow HuggingFace keep their philosophy of neutrality and continue being an open ground for research without political bias, e.g. the “abliteration” techniques and hosted models. Right now I feel like this angle is under the biggest threat, until clarified by Nvidia.

Until they address the community’s questions and show us that HuggingFace remains HuggingFace, people will continue arguing for all the good reasons. Otherwise, the endless pocket of Nvidia is an unreal milestone for HuggingFace to secure!

I don’t see that much difference; the ultimate goal is always control and profit

Even if what you said is clarified by nVidia, it doesn’t mean they’ll keep their word on it. It could just be PR and Jensen Huang is readind this thread.

So…good bye HG, it was good…but now is going to die, its like @morph17 said NVidia just want profit and control…

LOL…ask to linux and general opensource community what nvidia does for us… search for legendary linus’s torwalds speech: “f u nvidia”… to reminder you who is nvidia…
HG is dead now.

Why Nvidia? Aren’t they already big enough? It almost never went well when mega big companies buy smaller ones in long term. Was there no other option? Is Huggingface broke? Was it THAT urgent? I guess we can say goodbye soon to free or uncensored content here. I’ve got a very baaaad feeling about that…
